Hello everybody! So I have been completely absorbed the last three days writing and recording a new song, which sounds pretty good so far. One other new one is done, just have to mix it right. Other than that I have been occasionally hanging out with Christina's rather nerdy but cool friends Jia Jia (she's not a stripper, she's just Chinese) and John Lang (the name sounds like that of a cowboy, but he has a physical build that is more reminiscent of Shaggy from Scooby Doo), and besides that I have been reading voraciously including: John McColloughs's 1776 (really good), Thich Naht Hanh's Fragrant Palm Leaves (excellent), an overview history book of World War II (okay, but a bit dull, inconsistently well-written, a bit too interested in condemning rather than presenting), Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy (good), and Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha (beautiful). So here are some good quotes from the Sun and a few I've picked up along the way.
Though a person would like to think that ambition counts for something, the truth is that it doesn't. There is no difference between a fat boy lounging on the steps and a man at a typewriter turning out horseshit writing 'No difference at all' -- Garrison Keillor
Friends want you to appear in the familiar form they know. They want you to remain intact, the same. But that isn't possible. How could we continue to live if we wer changeless? To live, we must die every instant. We must perish again and again in the storms that make life possible. It would be better, I thought, if everyone cast me from their thoughts. I cannot be a human being and, at the same time, be an unchanging object of love, or hatred, or annoyance, or devotion. I must continue to grow. --- Thich Naht Hanh
Dash across the meadow, my dear friend, and great yesterday's child. When you can't see me, you yourself will return. Even when your heart is filled with despair, you will find the same grasshopper on the same blade of grass. --- Thich Naht Hanh
And from the Sun's Sunbeams:
The truth is that Mozart, Pascal, Boolean algebra, Shakespeare, parliamentary government, baroque churches, Newton, the emanicipation of women, Kant, Marx, and Balanchine ballets don't redeem what this particular civilizaiton has wrought upon the world. ---Susan Sontag
We could have saved Earth but we were too damned cheap. --- Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
In the long term, the economy and the environment are the same thing. If it's unevironmental, it is uneconomical. That is the rule of nature. --- Mollie Beattie
The wonder of the world, the beauty, and the power, the shapes of things, their colors, lights and shades, these I saw. Look ye also while life lasts. --- Gravestone inscription, Cumberland, England
