One more week until this crappy year is overwith.
I think maybe i've only said what i want to happen this summer/fall and not what i'll actually be doing. It looks like i'm not going to have a real job this summer. I am supposed to find an urban planning internship, but i'm not going to. This irresponsible idea started with Adam convincing me to join the Hoot Hoots, at least for the summer. Adam, Chris, and i decided to play basketball to determine who got to chose where to live. It was one hell of a basketball game. Chris beat us each by two points and chose to live in Galesburg. Luckily my roomate Michael and i convinced him that there are no jobs in Galesburg and they should all move to Urbana instead. So our 2-bedroom apartment will have 5 people and a kitty this summer. We will practice in the basement and hopefully play gigs in town somewhere. For money, we will be helping Michael build computer networks, remodel our bathroom and build a patio behind our apartment (in exchange for rent abatement from our landlord), and i don't know what else.
The only academic thing i'll be working on is my masters project, which is, incidentally, the first academic thing i've been excited about since i left Knox. My plan is to help a group of people somewhere in America build a cohousing community. I posted an ad offering my services free of charge and got responses from 9 groups. Right now, i'm leaning toward working for this one church group in Louisville, Kentucky that is trying to build low-income cohousing for their diverse congregation, but nothing is set in stone yet.
The picture is of my apartment in Urbana. Doesn't do our neighborhood justice. It's a beautiful place. Come visit. Peace.
